Frequently asked questions

We are dedicated to providing a secure and enriching experience for all students. Our robust safety protocols and highly qualified team ensure that every adventure is not only thrilling but also meticulously managed. Your peace of mind is paramount, and our commitment to safety is evident in every detail of our programme.

How do you ensure student safety and welfare during the trip?

Before the trip:

  • Up-to-date risk assessments are available on request for every activity and site (canoeing, high ropes, canyoning at Canyon de la Besorgues, cave visits, transfers).
  • Activity-specific risk assessments are reviewed and refreshed each season, and adjusted for river levels or weather on the day.
  • Full medical and dietary information is collected from schools in advance, with allergies flagged to caterers and activity leaders.
  • Emergency contact details, next-of-kin information, and a group manifest are held by the trip leader and back at base.
  • A pre-trip briefing pack for accompanying teachers covers the itinerary, emergency procedures, and staff-to-student ratios.

Staff and qualifications:

  • Qualified, experienced staff for every activity (e.g., canoe/kayak coaches, high ropes instructors, canyoning guides).
  • All instructors hold nationally recognised qualifications appropriate to French regulations for their discipline.
  • Intensive staff training and induction before each season, including site-specific briefings.

What official accreditations and partnerships does Elite Ardèche hold?

Staff qualifications and badges:

  • ICU (International Canoe Federation) or French Canoe Federation equivalent coaching awards for canoe/kayak staff.
  • UK NGB or French equivalent (e.g., AMGA/BE-style) qualifications for high ropes and canyoning instructors.
  • Outdoor First Aid certification (ITC or equivalent, SCQF Level 6 or above) held by lead staff.
  • DBS (or French equivalent enhanced background check) for all staff working with under-18s.

Partnerships:

  • Direct partnerships with named, accredited local activity centres (e.g., Canyon de la Besorgues) rather than subcontracted or unknown operators.
  • Partnership with vetted hotel(s) with safeguarding and fire safety compliance documentation.
  • Relationship with a UK-based safeguarding/child-protection consultant or auditor who can provide an independent reference for schools.

How does Elite Ardèche handle unexpected incidents or bad weather?

Immediate response to a minor accident:

  • On-site first aiders (all activity groups have at least one trained first aider) treat minor injuries immediately.
  • The incident is radioed or phoned through to base straight away, even for minor issues – nothing waits until the end of the day.
  • Accompanying teachers are informed on the spot, not after the fact.
  • A written incident report is completed the same day, logging what happened, treatment given, and any follow-up needed.

Escalation for anything more serious:

  • Clear chain of command: activity leader → trip leader → UK/UAE-side base contact, so decisions do not stall waiting for the "right" person.
  • Pre-agreed links with local medical services (nearest hospital/clinic identified for every activity site in advance, as part of the site risk assessment).
  • 24/7 on-call support number for accompanying teachers, ensuring someone is always reachable outside activity hours.
  • Parents and school are notified promptly according to a pre-agreed protocol established with the school before the trip.

Can we review your risk assessments?

Yes, up-to-date risk assessments are available on request for every activity and site. Please contact us at philip@eliteardeche.com or 004477 966 41299 to request these documents.

What is your staff-to-student ratio?

Our staff-to-student ratios adhere to industry best practices and are outlined in the pre-trip briefing pack for accompanying teachers. We ensure adequate supervision for all activities.
